Discover Tung Hoi Kitchen

There’s a small spot on 1355 Montauk Hwy E, Mastic, NY 11950, United States that’s been quietly winning hearts-and stomachs-for years. Locals call it Tung Hoi Kitchen, and while the name may sound simple, the flavors tell a much richer story. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the unmistakable aroma of sizzling garlic, soy, and sesame-a scent that promises comfort in every bite.

What makes this diner stand out isn’t just the food but the way it feels. The interior is cozy, lined with photos of happy customers, and there’s always a hum of conversation as regulars swap stories between bites. On my first visit, I ordered their General Tso’s Chicken, a dish that’s both crisp and tender with just the right kick of heat. The balance between sweet and savory was impressive, rivaling some of the top Chinese restaurants I’ve tried in Manhattan.

A friend who grew up in the area mentioned that their family has been ordering from Tung Hoi Kitchen for over a decade. According to her, “the consistency is what keeps them coming back.” That consistency isn’t by chance. The chef, who trained in Hong Kong before moving to New York, focuses on traditional Cantonese cooking methods-flash frying, slow steaming, and careful seasoning. Each dish feels handcrafted, never rushed, and always fresh.

Their menu covers everything from lo mein and fried rice to chef’s specials like Mongolian beef and shrimp with lobster sauce. A local favorite is the roast pork fried rice, perfectly smoky with that slightly charred edge that comes only from a well-seasoned wok. For those who enjoy spicier flavors, the Hunan chicken packs an incredible punch without overwhelming the palate. It’s no wonder their online reviews are filled with comments about the “best takeout in Mastic” and “portions big enough to share.”

Dining here feels less like a restaurant visit and more like being welcomed into someone’s kitchen. On weekends, families gather around big tables, and the staff knows many customers by name. It’s a place where experience meets heart, and that authenticity shows in every plate served. Data from the National Restaurant Association highlights that 73% of diners value quality and authenticity over price, which explains why Tung Hoi Kitchen thrives in such a competitive area.

The restaurant’s team sources fresh ingredients daily from local suppliers, ensuring both quality and sustainability. They’ve also adapted well to modern demands, offering online ordering and delivery without sacrificing taste or presentation. It’s this combination of tradition and practicality that sets them apart from generic takeout spots.

When I asked one of the staff members about their philosophy, she said, “We want people to feel at home, even when they’re just grabbing dinner to go.” That sense of care is rare, and it’s why so many customers leave glowing reviews not just for the food, but for the friendly service.

For anyone driving through Suffolk County, this is one of those must-stop eateries that captures the soul of local dining. Whether you’re craving a quick lunch special or a comforting dinner, the experience here goes beyond just eating-it’s about connection, warmth, and tradition. The next time you’re near Mastic, make a detour to Tung Hoi Kitchen and discover why locals call it a hidden gem.

  • I eat here all the time. They have the best boneless spare ribs soooo tender. When u get them on a good night it's some of the best chinese food ever. They are a little inconsistent tho sometimes it's just good but nights like tonight it is excellent

  • Good version of classic neighborhood Chinese food. Avoid the sesame chicken or general tso chicken because they use an ultra processed version of chicken in these dishes that is hard and doesn’t digest well. Everything else we ordered was great. White rice was fluffy. Wonton soup broth was good even tho the wonton noodle was very thick for no reason. Ask for extra hot sauce. Get the lunch special to save $$

  • You're a typical Chinese place. Food was pretty good service was okay. Glenness was okay, they seem to be all the same, quite honestly
